paintings & mixed media artwork
Yanic Nys is an Antwerp mixed media artist who started making paintings in 2007. As former owner of a large well known photo studio in an old metal construction factory in the center of Antwerp, he used these studios at night to create his large format paintings. At that time he mainly painted large bright close-up portraits of sexy women in oilpaint on canvas.
After selling his photo studios in 2010, Yanic Nys lived partially in the south of France for 7 years. In 2018 he returned to Antwerp and opened an art gallery in the heart of the Antwerp fashion district.
Since 2019 he has started again making new artwork in which he combines painting, photography, collage and digital techniques. He creates his images in Photoshop and Illustrator and then these images are split into a huge amount of layers and transferred to canvas or paper using thick layers of paint, ink, gel mediums, oil stick and pencil, mixed with collages, image transfers and various graphic elements. These extra elements ensure that the paintings have a very graphic style, despite the rather rough painting technique - mostly with palette knives.
Yanic Nys presents a new series of his typical bright mixed media paintings at NATIONAL 55 Art Gallery in Antwerp.
In the layers of acrylic paint you will find subtle art deco elements, palm trees and graphic elements or photographic close ups of sexy women.
Some paintings are finished with a thick mirror-smooth layer of high-gloss resin. Other paintings are kept rough with thick layers of paint and collaged or transferred elements. These elements ensure that the paintings have a very graphic style, despite the rather rough painting technique.
